This to me sounds like a very typical day for the period in which the book was written. At first glance it doesn't appear to be as shocking as the only other Lawrence I've read, Lady Chatterly's Lover, which was banned for thirty years from first publication., but I'm hoping I'll enjoy it as much.
Anyone else read this? What did you think?

I haven't read it, but I really like their names. I haven't read Lady Chatterly's Lover either, so D.H. Lawrence isn't really someone I know.

No, I haven't read any Lawrence books. I would like to read this one. I like the title. I've always heard about Lady Chatterley's Lover. Anxious to hear what you think of this one.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good title isn't it? You've probably heard about Lady Chatterly's Lover because it's somewhat lifted. After the ban on it was lifted in Britain in the 60's there were women queueing at bookshops to be able to read it and see what the fuss was all about.

I don't think it is about Lesbian love, that was my first thought too, but then I looked it up and I think it's just about the passage into a state of love for the two sisters. But even then I'm sure Lawrence will be able to visualise in a way to shock, after all he created the infamous John Thomas and Lady Jane.

I read 'The Rainbow', another shocking novel by Lawrence. All of his novels are amazing though and especially for the time, all of them were quite sexual. His use of language is very expressive! Thanks for sharing!

It really is isn't it. I can see why he got some of his books banned, they're even shocking in some ways when compared against some of the explicit novels written in the last decade. I'll chack out your post.
